STOP SEVEN: Henry Oil
201 South Dallas Street

Welcome to Stop 7 of the Rails, Bales and Bluebonnet Trails historic downtown Ennis walking tour. You may see retail in front of you now, but this charming space used to be Henry’s Oil and Gas Company. Guy Henry worked at Mobil Oil Distributors in Corsicana before moving to Ennis in 1948 to start his own business. On its 10th anniversary, the business relocated to this building located at the corner of Brown and South Dallas Streets. According to an Ennis Daily News story in 1958, the coined slogan for the business was “If your car or tractor uses it, we sell it.” Many homes, businesses and farms relied on Henry Oil & Gas Company for fuel. Guy Henry left his footprint not only in the oil and gas industry in Ennis but also received several awards for outstanding contributions in civic undertakings.
