STOP FOUR: Marshall Murder
Alley One, Downtown Ennis
Welcome to Stop 4 of the Rails, Bales and Bluebonnet Trails historic downtown Ennis walking tour. Let’s take a step back to August 19, 1880, when this alley crossing Ennis Avenue by the Ennis National Bank was the very place where Ennis City Marshal Joe Bullard was shot and killed. City Marshal Bullard had arrested Sid Alexander, a local blacksmith, the previous evening for being drunk and disorderly. After Alexander got out of jail, he found Marshal Bullard and shot and killed him. Sid was tried and sentenced to life in prison.
